richer readingEvery reader seeks new reading inspiration from time to time. Of course, you can find it in new books but there are some more activities that can bring you new inspiration and enlarge your reading horizon.

1) Book signing events
Seeing author before or after reading the book can give a little more insight about the book, about how it was written or the idea of it. Besides, it’s a great opportunity to get author’s signature.

2) Rating on Goodreads or www.jr.lv
Every author will be happy to have his/her book rated as well as it is always nice to read some other peoples’ reviews before buying/reading the book. Plus it helps to shape your own opinion.

3) Book clubs
A book club is a brilliant opportunity to meet people who share your views/interests. What are you going to read – it’s up to you. You can always come up with a topic that interests you. By the way there is a book club on Barona Street going on every month. Or you can always make your own book club.

4) Discovering new reading places
Reading at home is fun but there are also lots of distractions there so not go to a nice café or bike to your favorite park to read there? It’s also a marvelous chance to combine reading and healthy activities like biking/walking.

5) Reading literary magazines
Literary magazines gives you an insight of the newest literary works, excerpts of upcoming books and being informed about what’s happening in literary world. Worth reading! In Latvia there are magazines like Konteksts, Domuzīme etc.

6) Attending Writers’ museums
Both Latvian and foreign Writers museums are getting more and more interactive and interesting, so they are wonderful source of knowledge and inspiration as well as discussions and readings.

7) Trying new genres
Autumn is the perfect time for poetry, don’t you think? Try out reading some local poets or give a chance to foreign ones. Or if poetry is not your cup of tea, try biographies or anything else. Make your reading list richer and more varied.
